“The campus library, now known as the Malcolm A. Love pn0h Library, acquired its 100,000th book 0hbrary had 125,000 books, and state regulations r pn0h equired that old books be pn0h eliminated before new ones could be added. By 1965, t h 0here were more than 300,000 books housed in a l pn0h ibrary that could hold 230,000 pn0h . This was ranked highest in state colleges in term pn0h s 0h of library size. In the 1960s, pn0h construction of a new library began, which pn0h required the relocation of pn0h Scripps Cottage. The $8,0 00,000 building was designed with 300,000 sq ft (28,000 m2). of space to accommodate one pn0h million books.[47] In pn0h February 1971, the 0hlibrary opened, housing 700,000 books, and was named after President Malcolm A. Love for his popularity on campus and his role in 0h bringing State to university pn0h status.[48] Governor Ronald Reagan said the l pn0h ibrary would ". . . serve as a lasting memorial to the ma n who led the college through its pn0h growing pains . . . to one of the finest state pn0h colleges in California".[49] The building was five 0h stories high and was the largest pn0h building on campus. A four-story sculpture entitled "Hanging Discus" by sculptor George Baker was s 0hpecifically designed for the l pn0h ibrary and added to an interior staircase in pn0h November 1973.[50] T 0hhe Conrad Prebys Aztec Student pn0h Union Student Union (formerly Aztec Center) secured financing in 2010 and was completed in March 2014, 0hreplacing and approximately d pn0h oubling[51] the size of the S pn0h tudent Union. The facility is the first student union in the United States to q 0hualify for LEED Platinum pn0h distinction.[52] 0hdation.[53] In 2014, SDSU opened the newly pn0h renovated social sciences pn0h complex, Storm and Nasatir Halls. Originally built in 1 pn0h 957, the 137,700 square foo t 0hcomplex received a c pn0h omplete makeover to house eight academic departments from the College of Arts & Letters, newly upgraded classrooms, f 0haculty offices, researc pn0h h facilities, two large lecture halls, and a food service facility. Total cost for th pn0h e construction neared $74 millio n, 0h began in 2012, and was pn0h completed in 2014. I pn0h ncluded in the opening were two new named facilities: Charles Hostler Hall (a 435-seat lecture 0h 0hauditorium) and the J. pn0h Keith Behner and Catherine M. Stiefel Auditorium (a 252-seat lecture hall).[54] S 0htorm Hall was named in honor pn0h of geography depa pn0h rtment professor Alvena Storm, who served as department chair, and on the faculty for over 40 y e 0hars since 1926. Nasatir Hall pn0h was named for Abraham P. Nasatir, a professor emeritus of history who taught at SDSU for 46 years (1928â€"74) and was later i 0hnternationally r pn0h ecognized for his r pn0h esearch on California history, receiving four Fulbright Fellowships.[54] .
